art and nature

i spent saturday afternoon at the triton museum with my nephews for a family cardboard art workshop. the course was taught by ann weber, a sculptor whose work is currently on exhibition there.



i love her art for so many reasons. the organic shapes. the fact that they are made from recycled materials. the way the kids in the class were so drawn to it and inspired by it. they created hats and swords and 3-D animals and baskets and towers and books and boats.

it was the boat that inspired me. the little girl who made it left the spine open so you could see the ribs. everyone else saw a boat. i saw something else. which inspired this leaf:



i love the way it felt to build it. i love how inspiring it was to be surounded by the creativity of kids. a little non-tox varnish and it will be ready for my wall.
